THE WINTER SOLDIER Registration for the DENFIT Winter Soldier is now live. Test your mettle against the elements as you run along the icy St. Lawrence!  Cape Vincent Recreation Park  602 S James St Cape Vincent, NY 13618  Choose between 10k - Half Marathon - Full Marathon. The course is a flat fast out-and-back from Rec Park to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse. The 10k is a single lap (with a slightly modified route), Half Marathon is two laps, and Full Marathon is four laps. Runners will have access to HOT shower facilities and plenty of room to spread out within Rec Park building.  Inside, light refreshments will be provided while outside, runners will be able to enjoy a roaring fire and music! The Lighthouse turn around will have a sheltered aid station to provide water and food for runners along with toilet facilities. Upon course completion, each runner will receive a medal, t-shirt and for those brave enough to run the full marathon...the highly coveted DENFIT SPEAR, which is also getting a new design for this year!!  DENFIT Become More  The Full Marathon will be LIMITED to 100 RUNNERS, while the total participation cap will be 200 runners. This probably seems like a high cap and that there will be plenty of time to sign up, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this might sell-out, so don't put off registration until the very last minute.  Prices will also increase, so if you want to take advantage of the best pricing, sign up soon and reserve your spot NOW.  Parking will be a minimal walk to event area. Parking is free - but as you park, I'm asking runners to make a small donation of any size to a local non-profit organization that is TBD.  *For handicap & special needs parking, please contact the race Given the unpredictability of the weather, runners are required to have a safety light or strobe with them should the forecast shift to whiteout conditions. And while there will be plenty of opportunities to use an aid station, personal hydration is strongly recommended.  Prizes, contests, rewards will all roll out as we get closer to the event. There will be a "Quick Drop Tent" next to the start line for runners who want to keep gear outside to switch out without having to go into the building!  Just as before, THERE WILL BE NO WEATHER CANCELLATIONS* (unless a NYS-issued travel ban is in effect). There will most likely be snow. There will most likely be wind. We may even get a blizzard. Prepare accordingly.  After all, this is the Winter Soldier.

Leatherman's Loop

Cross River·10K

The Leatherman's Loop is put on by Leatherman's Loop Races.  Other races to check out: FALL Run the Farm (Oct 25, 2026) • Raven Rocks Run (Nov 8, 2026) • SPRING Run the Farm (May 23, 2027) • Fire Tower Trail Half Marathon & 10k (June 6, 2027) The Leatherman's Loop is a 10k trail race held in the spring (April 25, 2027). Start time is 9am. (ARRIVE at the park BY 8AM if you are registered to run!) If you have questions about the race, visit the Loop website or specifically the Loop FAQ page at the website. You can follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/leathermansloop and Facebook: https://facebook.com/leathermansloop Due to the popularity of the event, Loop entry is via Lottery. For more information, visit our Loop Lottery FAQ page here. We are always grateful to our race volunteers! If you'd like to sign up to volunteer, visit this page: https://leathermansloop.org/volunteer Please put leathermansloop@gmail.com and info@runsignup.com in your address book so our emails to you and the confirmation emails from RunSignUp.com do not get tagged as spam.  Thanks! -Rob, Ciorsdan, and the Leatherman Harriers volunteers PS: two additional notes: 1.) The registration cost of the Leatherman's Loop incorporates the park's entry fee into the registration cost -- so the park does not have to collect the parking fee separately from each entrant on race morning. Long ago we figured out it was more efficient for us to pay the park that fee directly rather than have hundreds of cars line up at the entrance fumbling for cash at the entrance gate to the Rez on race morning.  2.) Dogs are not permitted to run in the Loop. In 2020 the USATF began a new policy prohibiting dogs from running in races they sanction and insure. The Loop is a USATF sanctioned and insured race. Leashed dogs are welcome at the park anytime.

Fire Tower Trail Races

Cross River·Half Marathon

The Second Annual Fire Tower Trail Half Marathon and 10k Race are set for Sunday June 6, 2027 at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY. The race celebrates the return of the historic fire tower to its former spot atop the Cross River Mountain in Pound Ridge. Both the half marathon and the 10k course pass by the summit where the fire tower is currently being reconstructed by the county parks department. The half marathon circumnavigates the park trails, hitting all of three the overlooks (Spy Rock, Raven Rocks, and the Leatherman Overlook) and rock features* highlighed on the trail map. The 10k is shorter but still a challenge to the top of the park. More details about the race and course including course maps are available at the website. The elevation change for the 10k is 1006 feet. The half marathon elevation change is approximately 2360 feet. See Strava maps below and at the crmfiretower.org website We are raising money for the "Friends of the Fire Tower" as we put on this race -- and continuing afterwards. The Friends group is part of the Westchester Parks Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit. The fundraising will be used for projects enhancing the accessibility of the tower to the public as well as education about the park and the historic land that it sits on. There will be opportunities for larger donations to support educational signage, canopy viewscape mapping signage, and benches at the base among other things. We hope you can come out to run the race, volunteer, and donate to support the Friends of the Fire Tower as we support the opening and continued enhancement of the Fire Tower experience at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. ....Rob & Ciorsdan, Race directors More information, photos, video, and history of the Cross River Mountain Fire Tower and our efforts to get it restored can be found at our website crmfiretower.org -- *rock features on the Rock Trail include: Raven Rocks, Castle Rock, Spy Rock, Bear Rock, Dancing Rock, and Indian Rock Shelter
