Tromptown Marathon & Half

DeRuyter·Marathon

This will be the 6th year for a new time, day and season for the Marathon.  The two runs are some of New York State's, even nationally challenging, and yet scenic runs. The half-marathon takes you through parts of three counties, the marathon through four counties. That curious fact for the marathon should put us as number one in the nation in that category. The half-marathon course, of 49 years remains the same, but with new start and finish lines. It includes circling the lake, then the continuation of the sights, sounds, and smells of fresh country air intensity as you leave the dam, near the half-way point. As you head south for the finish line the views unfold of the valley's and the village to the east.  The marathon takes in the first 12.1 miles of the half-marathon before turning south, then east at about the 17 mile point. Beginning around the 20 mile marker one heads northwest and gradually ascends to Tromptown's own but short "heartbreak hill". From 22-25 miles one is heading west, finish line bound, descending with a wide panoramic view of three valleys and their surrounding hills. The last mile is level in the village. The marathon and half-marathon are loop courses. They start very near the finish line in front of the school. Both are newly certified. With the new marathon  and moving the start and finish lines for the half-marathon new certifications were required.     Half-Marathon:   The half-marathon is the same course as the last 49 years.  However, all runs start very near the school and all runs finish at the same place in front of the school. Full Marathon:   This marathon is a Boston qualifier The first 12.1 miles of the marathon course uses the half marathon course. Both runs are loop courses. Course closes at 2:30 pm Liquid support every two miles or less. T-shirts can be purchased for an additional $10

DENFIT Winter Soldier

Cape Vincent·Marathon

THE WINTER SOLDIER Registration for the DENFIT Winter Soldier is now live. Test your mettle against the elements as you run along the icy St. Lawrence!  Cape Vincent Recreation Park  602 S James St Cape Vincent, NY 13618  Choose between 10k - Half Marathon - Full Marathon. The course is a flat fast out-and-back from Rec Park to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse. The 10k is a single lap (with a slightly modified route), Half Marathon is two laps, and Full Marathon is four laps. Runners will have access to HOT shower facilities and plenty of room to spread out within Rec Park building.  Inside, light refreshments will be provided while outside, runners will be able to enjoy a roaring fire and music! The Lighthouse turn around will have a sheltered aid station to provide water and food for runners along with toilet facilities. Upon course completion, each runner will receive a medal, t-shirt and for those brave enough to run the full marathon...the highly coveted DENFIT SPEAR, which is also getting a new design for this year!!  DENFIT Become More  The Full Marathon will be LIMITED to 100 RUNNERS, while the total participation cap will be 200 runners. This probably seems like a high cap and that there will be plenty of time to sign up, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this might sell-out, so don't put off registration until the very last minute.  Prices will also increase, so if you want to take advantage of the best pricing, sign up soon and reserve your spot NOW.  Parking will be a minimal walk to event area. Parking is free - but as you park, I'm asking runners to make a small donation of any size to a local non-profit organization that is TBD.  *For handicap & special needs parking, please contact the race Given the unpredictability of the weather, runners are required to have a safety light or strobe with them should the forecast shift to whiteout conditions. And while there will be plenty of opportunities to use an aid station, personal hydration is strongly recommended.  Prizes, contests, rewards will all roll out as we get closer to the event. There will be a "Quick Drop Tent" next to the start line for runners who want to keep gear outside to switch out without having to go into the building!  Just as before, THERE WILL BE NO WEATHER CANCELLATIONS* (unless a NYS-issued travel ban is in effect). There will most likely be snow. There will most likely be wind. We may even get a blizzard. Prepare accordingly.  After all, this is the Winter Soldier.

The Micro: Breaking 3

Valley Cottage·Marathon

A Race Series Designed by Runners, for Runners In 2021, the coaches of the McKirdy Trained online coaching platform created the McKirdy Micro Marathon series to give athletes an opportunity to race. The mission was to help athletes run a personal best and qualify for the Boston Marathon or beyond. At the time, the world was just coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic where opportunities to run fast times were limited and motivation to continue training was difficult with no upcoming races on the calendar. 6 races successfully took place across the US over a 2 month span, and athletes were able to use their results to register for Boston. We considered it mission accomplished. A year and a half later, however, we recognized there was still a problem that our race concept might be able to solve. As the qualifying window for the Olympic Trials was coming closer and closer to a close, many “on the cusp” athletes found they had limited options for races that are both fast and will provide the support they need to run their best. So in 2023, we took the McKirdy Micro concept and applied it at an elite level, hosting a race for athletes targeting the USATF Olympic Trials Qualifying Standard (OTQ) or beyond.  Athletes from all over the world came to participate in our small, local race. When the day was done: 48 athletes ran under the 2:18:00/2:37:00 OTQ Standard More OTQs came from our race than any other race in 2023 Our race produced 2 Olympians 69% of the finishing athletes ran a personal best 85% of the finishing athletes ran their second fastest lifetime marathon At that point we knew we were on to something. We were building a race for athletes who wanted to run fast, and we were able to deliver. We knew we wanted to expand this concept further, to athletes of all levels. Next came the Road to Tokyo marathon, but we added a second race that year - Breaking 3. A race designed for those looking to run under 3 hours. And we were blown away by the demand. Now, for 2027 we have 3 events planned under "The Micro" marathon events: micrOTQ, for those trying to qualify for the Trials (or faster) Breaking 3, for those looking to break 3 hours  microBQ, for those trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon   Our marathon events are hosted at Rockland Lake State Park, NY. This course is a 2.94 mile criterium style loop measured by World Athletics "A" certifier, Jim Gerweck. Our events are USATF Certified and Sanctioned. micrOTQ is also on the World Athletics calendar.
