A Message from the Three Village Historical Society:
A Difficult Decision: Culper Spy 5K Fundraiser Cancellation
With incredibly heavy hearts, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s Three Village Historical Society Culper Spy 5K Fundraiser on Sunday, September 27 due to the forecast of extremely high and potentially dangerous winds.
From the beginning, our intention was to hold this race rain or shine. We were prepared to run in the rain, just as we did in 2025, when our runners, volunteers, and supporters came together through truly torrential rain. We knew weather would never stop us from celebrating our community and supporting the important work of the Three Village Historical Society.
Unfortunately, this year’s forecast presents a very different safety concern. The anticipated high winds could create dangerous conditions for runners, volunteers, spectators, and everyone involved in the event. After carefully considering the safety of our entire community, we simply cannot responsibly move forward.
This decision is especially heartbreaking because of the tremendous amount of time, energy, generosity, and volunteer effort that has gone into making this event possible. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has registered, donated, volunteered, and supported the Historical Society.
Because of the extensive planning and coordination required, we unfortunately cannot reschedule the 5K. Local churches and community organizations have also already scheduled their own races and fundraising events, and we do not want to create conflicts with these wonderful community efforts.
Your support can still make a meaningful difference. Funds raised through this event will continue to support the Three Village Historical Society’s educational programming and the restoration of the historic Dominick Crawford Barn. Although we cannot gather for the race this year, your generosity will help us continue preserving and sharing our community’s history for generations to come.
Your registration fee will be automatically applied toward next year’s Culper Spy 5K. When registration opens next year, simply log in to your RunSignup account and claim your deferral.
Because this is a fundraising event and significant expenses have already been incurred in preparation for the race, we are unable to issue refunds. We appreciate your understanding that your registration fee will instead remain with the Historical Society and be applied toward next year’s race.
T-shirts will be available for pickup at the Three Village Historical Society Headquarters during our regular operating hours of Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm and on Fridays from 3-6.
We know how disappointing this news is, and we are deeply sorry. We were looking forward to seeing everyone on race day and are devastated that circumstances beyond our control have made it unsafe to proceed.
